Gifts of Stock/Securities
If you have property, stocks, bonds or certificates of deposit, or other investment tools that have increased in value since you have purchased them, you may want to consider making a gift of these items instead of cash.
This is a great method for making a significant gift with little or no effect on your current income. In many cases you can deduct the full, current value of the asset, not just what you paid for it.
To transfer gifts of securities, call The Guidance Center at (928) 714-6464.
Many businesses have giving programs where the employer will match their employees’ charitable giving in whole or in part. In some cases, employers will also match gifts from spouses, directors, and retired employees. Please contact your employer’s human resources department to learn if your company will match your gift. Then just send in your gift with the form from your company, and they will contribute toward the area or program of your choice.
Planned Giving Bequest
Designate The Guidance Center as the beneficiary of your assets by will, trust, or other instrument. By putting The Guidance Center in your estate plans, you can receive recognition as a member of The Guidance Center’s Legacy Society.
Benefits of Your Bequest:
Receive estate tax charitable deduction.
Lessen the burden of taxes on your family.
Leave a lasting legacy.
How Do You Make a Bequest?
A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying that a gift to be made to family, friends, or The Guidance Center as part of your estate plan.
Your Bequest Options
A request may be made in several ways:
Gift of a percentage of your estate
Gift of a specific dollar amount or asset
Gift from the balance or residue of your estate
Making a Bequest of Your Retirement Assets
A retirement asset, such as an IRA account, makes an excellent bequest to us. If the IRA were given to your family, much of the value may be lost through estate and income taxes. By designating The Guidance Center as the beneficiary of all or part of your IRA (using a beneficiary designation form provided by your custodian), the full value of the gift is transferred tax-free at your death and your estate receives an estate tax charitable deduction.
On January 1, 2013, Congress passed legislation that includes several important provisions allowing you to support the causes you believe in using your Individual Retirement Account (IRA). If you are 70½ or older, you can make a gift of up to $100,000 to The Guidance Center from your IRA to meet your annual distribution requirement. By making an IRA charitable rollover gift, you are able to avoid taxes on the IRA distribution while supporting our charitable mission.
Contact your IRA custodian to make a gift from your IRA. The IRS will treat the amount of the cash gift as if you had made a direct rollover to charity and you can then avoid federal tax on the amount of the gift.
Corporate and Foundation Development
Corporations and foundations can make large impacts with The Guidance Center’s ability to provide vital services to the Northern Arizona region. Gifts can build buildings, create new programs, and increase services that benefit our community.
A gift in memory is particularly moving as it is a tribute to the life of someone special. The legacy of your loved one lives on in the lives of those helped by The Guidance Center. What a lasting tribute to that special person.
Establish an Endowment
Instead of giving directly to immediate needs, it is possible to establish an endowment as a way to extend the life of the gift. Endowments are gifts that are held in trust and invested with the earnings from the gift going to the directed purpose in perpetuity.
Named gifts are a wonderful way to support The Guidance Center and its programs. Your named gift will help ensure that opportunities for behavioral health help thrive for future generations, and it also will serve as a lasting tribute to you, your family, or a loved one. We welcome the opportunity to name in your honor as a perpetual expression of thanks. Named gift opportunities include facilities or programs, among other things.
