The Intensive Outpatient Program is offered to those adults aged 18 and over whose primary diagnosis is substance abuse or dependence or who are SMI with a co- occurring substance disorder, but whose ASAM does not merit the residential Recovery Program. While all service interventions are individualized, the basic program calls for three groups per week for at least the first 4 weeks, two groups per week for at least 16 weeks, and one group each week for at least 4 weeks. The group meetings are held in the evening. The curriculum is Matrix Institute IOP. The primary goals of the SA program are:
Assist clients in identifying the multiple problems that have resulted from their substance abuse;
learn the facts about both the psychological and physical progression of the disease;
assist client in accepting the need for sobriety.
develop positive support systems which aid the maintenance of sobriety; learn and utilize new coping skills.
Counseling Provided:
Multidimensional assessment, using ASAM criteria.
Service planning, including the use of a treatment team, with client consent
Group therapy is the primary treatment modality; however, individual and/or family treatment can be added as needed. Group therapy often targets topics like depression, anxiety, anger management and coping with co-occurring mental disorders.
Arrangements are made for psychiatric and psychological evaluation if needed during or before the treatment process.
If medications are prescribed, the agency will establish a medication-monitoring schedule with the prescribing psychiatrist.
Individual (where necessary) and group education much of which focuses on life skills, assertive communication and other positive coping skills.
The populations of the two programs consist of adults, male and female, many referred by the court system, some self-referred, and others who are referred by employers.
Also, the Industrial Drive facility meets all city, county, state and federal rules and regulations for accessibility for the disabled and special equipment for the hearing impaired.
The Substance Abuse Department has the ability to offer treatment in Spanish with other language and signing needs available on staff.
